Safeguarding in School

At Grange Primary Academy we believe that we all have the right to be listened to, the right to be heard, the right to feel safe and the right to be protected from harm.  We have a dedicated DSL team who work hard in school to ensure that we are able to achieve this.

Our Designated Safeguarding Leads:

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility at Grange Primary Academy. All staff who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play. In order to fulfil this responsibility effectively, all staff make sure their approach is child centred. This means that they consider, at all times, what is in the best interests of the child. If children and families are to receive the right help at the right time, everyone who comes into contact with them has a role to play in identifying concerns, sharing information and taking prompt action.

The Leadership Team ensures they facilitate a whole school approach to safeguarding. This means ensuring safeguarding and child protection are at the forefront and underpin all relevant aspects of process and policy development. Staff working with children  have an attitude of ‘it could happen here’ . Ultimately, all systems, processes and policies  operate with the best interests of the child at their heart. Where there is a safeguarding concern the school will ensure the child’s wishes and feelings are taken into account when determining what action to take and what services to provide. Systems are in place for children to express their views and give feedback.

Everyone has a role to play in identifying concerns, sharing information and taking prompt action in accordance with our policy. The school has arrangements for listening to children and providing early help and processes for children to raise concerns about themselves or their peers. Details of these arrangements are outlined in all annual and new staff safeguarding training. All safeguarding concerns are to be reported via CPOMS, our online reporting system.

What should parents do if they are concerned about a child's safety or welfare?

If a parent or carer is concerned about a child's safety or welfare they can ask to speak to a member of the schools Designated Safeguarding Team (DSL).  This member of staff will be able to support the next steps around this concern.

What if it is an emergency and school is closed?

If a child is in immediate danger, left alone or missing, contact the police and/or ambulance service directly on 999.

If there is no immediate danger, you will need to establish the level of need and risk before you take action. Thresholds and Pathways will help you to do this.

If you need advice about the levels of need and whether to make a referral, please contact the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH).

If a child is at immediate risk professionals should call MASH on 0300 126 3000 and 0300 126 7000 to make a telephone referral, you will subsequently be required to put this in writing.

In all other circumstances to make a referral to the MASH please complete the online referral form.

Professionals should note this is the MASH contact number for both West and North Northants. The MASH covers all of Northamptonshire but the contact line is hosted through West Northants Council so you will hear a West Northants message when you ring-keep on the line and choose Option 1 then Option 1 again and you will get through to the MASH.

If there is no immediate danger or if you need advice, contact the Northamptonshire Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub:

Out-of-hours:

If you need to contact children's social care urgently during the evening, at night or at the weekend, phone our out of hours team on 01604 626938.

An operator will answer the phone and take details of the problem and your contact details. They will then pass this information over to the duty social worker.
